The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Doma United ₦5.25 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security during their matchday nine fixture against Kun Khalifat FC.
Doma United held Kun Khalifat to a 1-1 draw in the keenly contested match at the Pantami Stadium last Saturday.
According to the NPFL, home supporters allegedly attacked Kun Khalifat FC’s technical adviser, Obinna Uzoho, after the game. The fans were also accused of hostile conduct towards match officials and the away team’s officials, behaviour the league described as capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As part of the punishment, the Savannah Scorpions have been ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors, following what the league called a repeated breach of security.
The match commissioner overseeing the fixture has also been recommended for demotion to a lower league division, over dereliction of duty, insufficient supervision, and inadequate reporting of the match.
Doma United have been warned to tighten security at their matches and educate their supporters on acceptable conduct, or risk facing even more severe sanctions should another breach of NPFL rules occur.
The club has 48 hours from the day of notice to appeal the sanctions.
