Fire Destroys 15 Shops at Bodija Market, Ibadan

Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed after fire razed several shops at Bodija Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, with 15 shops affected.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident, saying his men were immediately mobilised to the scene as soon as they were informed.

In a statement made available to the press on Monday, Akinwande said: “On arrival, the crew discovered that 15 out of a row of 44 shops had been engulfed by flames and thick smoke billowing from the affected premises. No casualty was recorded. The fire incident was as a result of electrical surge.”
