The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a woman, Fatima Ibrahim, in connection with the death of her six-year-old stepson, Mubarak Ibrahim, in Kwaimawa community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this to journalists on Monday, saying the child allegedly began vomiting uncontrollably shortly after drinking a beverage given to him by the suspect.
According to Habib, the boy’s family rushed him to the Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa following the incident, before he was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, for further treatment.
He said medical personnel fought to save the child’s life for eight days, but he was confirmed dead on October 24, 2026.
Habib explained that the suspect’s arrest followed a report by the Village Head of Kwaimawa, which prompted detectives to begin investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. He added that Fatima has been remanded in police custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described the incident as heartbreaking and inhumane, and assured the bereaved family that the command would pursue justice.
