Media entrepreneur and visibility strategist Kehinde Ajose has a message for anyone who feels boxed in by what people expect of them: stop asking for permission to grow.
In a reflective essay published on BellaNaija, Ajose — who has worn hats as a journalist, broadcaster, podcaster, bassist and author — traces his own reinvention across multiple careers, from writing entertainment stories as an undergraduate to hosting “Conversations With Kenni” today. His argument isn’t that you should abandon your past, but that you shouldn’t let it — or other people’s memory of it — define your ceiling.
“Life keeps moving. We should be allowed to move with it,” Ajose writes, pushing back against the idea that reinvention means rejecting who you used to be.
A timely reminder for anyone stuck in the “but that’s not who you were before” trap — from family, friends, or the group chat that still calls you by your old nickname.
