Nollywood Mourns as Francis Duru Passes Away at 57

Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has reportedly died at the age of 57 after a brief illness, leaving fans and colleagues in mourning.

His family announced the sad news on his official Instagram page in the early hours of Friday, thanking supporters for their prayers and encouragement during the difficult period.

“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness. We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement read.

His death comes months after he dismissed rumours that he was battling a life-threatening condition. In June, a video of him looking frail went viral online, raising concern among fans and colleagues. Duru responded with a video on Instagram, calling the footage fabricated and malicious.

Born on July 27, 1969, in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State, Duru completed his early education there before moving to Nigeria for higher education.

He married his wife, Adokiye, in 2003, and they have four children together. The family also suffered a painful loss in August 2024, when one of their children, Ifeanyi, died.
