The 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations is underway in Rabat, Morocco, with eight countries competing for the continental title. The tournament runs until October 21.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Libya and Zambia will play the opening match at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall.
The eight teams are hosts Morocco, Libya, Zambia, Algeria, Egypt, Angola, Mozambique and Tanzania. They have been split into two groups:
Group A: Morocco, Libya, Zambia, Algeria
Group B: Egypt, Angola, Mozambique, Tanzania
Libya come in hoping to build on their third-place finish at the 2024 edition, when they beat Egypt on penalties. The 2008 champions are now led by new coach Pereira da Silva, who replaced Ricardo Inuguez.
Zambia will be coached by Andrea Cristoforetti, who is at his second straight Futsal AFCON after leading the team at the 2024 finals, also in Rabat. He said two friendly games against Egypt gave his side a good idea of where they stand.
He described Libya as a team with a solid, structured style that has given opponents problems before, and said Zambia are curious to see how they measure up against the two North African sides.
Cristoforetti also believes his players are better prepared this time, with a captain who now has experience at this level. In his words, Zambia have been growing over the last four years, and this tournament is another step in that journey.
