Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has bid farewell to 100 indigenes of the state heading to India for fully funded postgraduate studies, in what officials are calling the state’s biggest scholarship send-off yet.
The beneficiaries — first-class and second-class upper graduates selected from all 16 local government areas — will study engineering, computer science, medical sciences, paramedical sciences and agriculture. The state government is covering tuition, return airfare, accommodation, meals and monthly stipends, with job opportunities promised on their return.
Speaking through Jethro Yakubu at the send-forth dinner, the governor was firm about how the selection was made: “There is no godfatherism, no politics and no connections in this process. It is strictly based on merit,” Kefas said.
A refreshing sentence to read in Nigerian scholarship news, if we’re honest.
