The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Benjamin, for allegedly running an unlicensed medical facility and treating patients for about seven years without any medical qualifications or licence to practise.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying Benjamin was arrested on October 2, 2026, at about 3pm by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at his clinic, Life Is Good Hospital, in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
According to Ayanlade, the arrest followed credible intelligence the command received about the suspect’s activities at the facility.
“The suspect was found attending to patients and administering treatments, particularly fertility-related treatments, despite not being a certified medical doctor,” the statement said.
Police said operatives recovered two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, one stethoscope, and a large carton of assorted medicines and specimen bottles from the facility.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Benjamin confessed to operating as a quack practitioner for about seven years without a licence to practise medicine. He also reportedly admitted to specialising in fertility-related treatments, which he administered to patients at the facility.
Ayanlade said the case raises serious concerns about the danger unqualified practitioners pose to the public, especially in sensitive areas like fertility care.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of Benjamin’s activities and establish whether anyone else was involved in running the facility. The command said appropriate action would be taken in line with the law as the investigation progresses.
The Oyo Police Command urged residents to verify the professional qualifications and registration status of anyone offering medical services before trusting them with their health or that of their loved ones. It also called on the public to report suspicious medical facilities or unqualified individuals claiming to be medical practitioners to the police or relevant regulatory bodies.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, and said it would continue working with regulatory agencies and the public to curb activities that endanger residents’ health and safety.
