Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has come to the defense of women who want to get married, saying that desiring marriage doesn’t make a woman desperate or without purpose.
In a post on her Instagram page, Olayode argued that women should be free to live the kind of life they choose without judgment. She said women who are happily single or uninterested in marriage deserve respect for that choice, just as women who want marriage should be able to say so without being shamed.
“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she wrote.
She acknowledged that some marriages don’t work out and that the institution has its challenges, but pointed out that many people still see marriage as beautiful and hope to experience it themselves.
Olayode also shared a story about an incident at a salon, where she overheard some women mocking another woman for saying she wanted to get married. She said she spoke up during the conversation, and later found the whole moment funny after coming across a “BRIDE” swimsuit a friend had gifted her back in 2024.
According to the actress, people are entitled to decide marriage isn’t for them, but should extend the same freedom to those who do want it. She added that women can pursue many things in life at once, faith, purpose, career, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage, without any of them cancelling the others out.
She ended her message with well wishes for everyone hoping to get married: “Up Love! Up Marriage!”
