The Federal Government has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for Nigerian schools for the 2026–2028 academic session.
The Federal Ministry of Education announced this in a statement by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, following the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.
The approved list covers textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SSS 1. Each selected book has been assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code containing key details such as the book’s title, author, publisher and year of publication, making it easier to identify and monitor approved textbooks.
According to the ministry, the ranking exercise was carried out under the supervision of Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Said Ahmad, with Alausa giving final approval to the list.
The ministry noted that adding the tracking codes took extra time to complete and verify, but said the step was necessary to improve accountability and transparency in how textbooks are selected, procured and used.
The exercise will continue in phases, with the next phase covering Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SSS 2.
Publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other stakeholders have been urged to use the approved list when selecting and purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.
The ministry said the goal of the exercise is to ensure pupils and teachers have access to quality, curriculum-aligned learning materials while improving transparency in textbook supply.
The full list of approved titles and their tracking codes is available on the ministry’s designated platform.
