A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has claimed that the US will not allow Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to rig the 2027 general elections.
The firm made the statement in a post on its verified X account on Thursday.
According to the firm, there is a growing consensus, regardless of political leaning, that the Nigerian government under Tinubu represents what they described as “a bastion of corruption.”
The firm alleged that Tinubu appointed someone the US Department of Justice had accused of embezzling billions from Nigeria’s treasury under a previous administration to now serve as the minister overseeing the nation’s budget.
“The US cannot afford to allow President Tinubu to rig the upcoming Nigerian election,” the firm stated, adding that the level of alleged lawlessness in the Nigerian government could put the country on a path similar to Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, nations that have experienced military takeovers in recent years.
“Free and fair elections in Nigeria are essential to protecting US interests in Nigeria and the broader region,” the firm added.
There has been no official response from the Nigerian presidency or the Tinubu-led government to the firm’s claims as of the time of this report
